Today’s lecture is main to talk about how meaning is produced. There are two processes involved, which Roland Barthes is largely responsible for first drawing attention to, though the terms are familiar enough nowadays: Denotation, the specific, literal meaning (the meaning to be found in the dictionary) established by convention (associated in semiotic thinking with the signifier) Connotation, figurative or suggested meanings held by individuals or groups. Barthes also calls these mythological meanings, because they rely not just on what the word or sign indicates but on some kind of belief system. The usual name for which is ideology, though it doesn’t have to be political ideology, just some kind of shared idea of how the world is.
We can also know that a code is any group of signs that function together to create an overall unit of meaning. Their relationship isn’t necessarily ‘natural’ but usage and repetition make it seem like it is. The meaning any coded sign communicates is always culturally determined.
In today’s tutorial, there are 2group of person play the presentation, the first person main to talk humans stereotypes, she explain her topic from men ,women ,children ,lesbian and gay. The second group mentioned about homosexual too. Their presentation made me know more about homosexual. As I know, in China there are few people can receipt gay/lesbian. Anyway, I think we should respect everyone in the world.
I find some video’s which mention about homosexual
